Bride Serves Mother-In-Law Fast Food Sub On Her Wedding Day And Father-In-Law Is Furious
What do you get when you mix a "needy and demanding" mother-in-law who has picky eating habits with a bride who wants her favorite meal served at her wedding? You get an absolute mess.
Weddings are supposed to be a happy day for everyone in attendance, but they also have a habit of bringing out some of the worst sides in people. Read on to see how this Reddit user learned that on her wedding day.
"AITA For Giving My MIL A Jersey Mike's Sub?"
An intriguing title to click into for anyone who was scrolling through Reddit's Am I The A**hole forum the day that this story was posted.
The bride in question was the one writing the post, saying that she knows the title is stupid, but her husband's family is "being torn apart" after what went down on their wedding day.

Introducing The In-Laws
To give a bit of background on the family, the bride writes that she doesn't have issues with her MIL, though "she can be a bit needy and demanding," but "she isn't a bad person."
Her FIL, on the other hand? He's apparently "horrible" and the thing that always causes his temper to flare up is when he thinks he or his wife are being disrespected.
Citrus Or Bust
The bride wrote in the post that recently she got married, and since it was her wedding, she wanted to serve her favorite foods: lemon chicken and lemon cake.
The problem is, she didn't serve anything else. Her reasoning was, "I felt that it was my day, and the less food options we had, the cheaper it was."
Everyone Can Manage, Except For The MIL
Lemon is a very distinct flavor though, and not everyone is going to be happy with that. The bride figured that "for the average guest" they would just deal with it, but not her MIL.
The bride knew that her mother hates lemon, since she "can't even put it in her mouth without gagging."
She's Just Asking For Trouble
While it is your wedding, it seems strange to pick food that your mother-in-law openly detests.
Especially when your in-laws are the ones paying for the wedding (which comes up later).
Giving Her Mother-in-Law A Substitution
Since she knew her mother-in-law wouldn't eat the meal that was being served, the bride tried to think up a solution, that would still be "cheap and easy."
What she came up with? A buffalo chicken cheesesteak from a local sub shop because that's her favorite fast food meal. She also had a box of M&Ms as a dessert substitute.
She Wasn't Thrilled But She Ate It
The Reddit user writes that her mother-in-law gave her a strange look when she was served her meal but still ate it.
She also adds that she had it delivered right before dinner so that it wouldn't be cold or soggy. While MIL ate it, her father-in-law had something to say.
A Furious Father-in-Law
His wife may have tolerated the delivery meal, but the bride's new father-in-law called her "selfish" and said that he disrespected both him and his wife.
He then went on a rant about how tacky it was "to have a wedding and not take the family into consideration," also adding that she wasted his money. He even went so far as to call his daughter-in-law names on her wedding day.
Tearing The Family Apart
The angry FIL is now demanding an apology, and one of the bride's new siblings-in-law is not speaking to her, whereas the other is on her side.
The MIL reportedly has said she doesn't want to cause any drama though she agrees that it was disrespectful.
A Divided Stance
The bride's new husband is firmly on the side of his wife, as are the bridesmaids who all feel the bride did nothing wrong.
The internet's opinion was just as divided.
Was The Bride In The Right Or The Wrong?
The fact that the bride chose to serve all lemon-flavored foods even with the knowledge that her MIL hates it was the fact that most people in the comments latched onto.
Also, the fact that the in-laws were the ones who paid for the wedding made it pretty hard to side with the bride. The majority ruling was that the bride was at fault for this catastrophe.
