A mom of three recently took to a popular subreddit to ask whether she was in the wrong for telling her son that she doesn't like him very much right now.
She was overwhelmingly supported and voted not the a-hole.
Her Son Was Bullying A Boy In His Class For His Sexuality
The post begins by explaining that while she loves her sons more than anything, she has been struggling with her 16-year-old who is "bullying a gay boy in his class."
The ongoing bullying was brought to her attention by a cousin who attended the same school.
He Refused To Apologize And Ended Up Grounded
Horrified by her son's actions, she offered him the chance to invite his classmate over for dinner to apologize but he refused.
"I ended up grounding him but it didn't seem to be affecting him at all and he clearly wasn't learning his lesson."
She Set Up A Chance For Him To Apologize But It Ended Badly
Undeterred by her son's unwillingness to apologize, she contacted the other student's family and explained what was going on.
The family agreed to meet for dinner, but the woman's son refused to apologize again and the family ended up leaving the uncomfortable situation.
The Mom Got Into A Huge Argument With Her Son
After the family left, a large argument broke out between the mom and her son.
Despite the drama, her son said "he wasn't sorry and again that nobody likes this kid."
She Admitted She Didn't Like Him Very Much Right Now
But the mom had a quick comeback for his ignorance and she told him she didn't like him very much right now either.
After hearing this, "he got quiet, apologized, and went to his room."
His Attitude Changed And He Apolgized
She goes on to explain that after their argument, the teen apologized to the student he was bullying.
She lifted his grounding punishment but noted that he's still hiding in his room and they very rarely speak.
Her Ex-Husband Criticized Her Parenting Approach
Her ex-husband weighed in to criticize the way she handled the situation which prompted her to ask Reddit users whether there was a better way to handle the situation.
Even though it may not have been the "nicest thing to hear," it was what her son needed to hear at the time.

Commenters were quick to support the mom and voted her not in the wrong in the situation.
She recognized a problem early on and knew the behavior needed to be dealt with before it escalated.

It turns out that her son was dealing with rejection and understanding his own sexuality and handled it very poorly.
