The Most Hilarious Photos Of Animals Ever Captured On Google Street Images, Look Closer
Google Street View has been helping directionally-challenged people get around since 2007. This feature is a great way for people to scope out places they may want to visit before even starting the trip. The images that you see on Google Street View are made by stitching digital panorama photos together. These photos are often taken by a camera mounted on a car, but sometimes the camera is mounted on a bike, a boat, a snowmobile, an underwater device, or on foot.
Sometimes, as the Google Earth car is driving by, it captures more than scenery. Keep reading to see some animals who were in the right place at the right time.
Standing Guard
This very good boy is standing guard at his owners' home. It's his job to make sure that nobody and no Google Street View cars intrude on their privacy. He has to stand up on his hind legs to see over that fence, but this dog is going to do what he has to do to keep his family safe.
Honestly, this is a pretty cute stance. Maybe he was just posing for the camera.
Caught In A Private Moment
This dog was just going for a walk, stopping to do his business by the side of the road like the good boy that he is, when the Google Street View car just rolled on by and invaded his privacy.
Now this photo is going to be on the internet forever. How embarrassing. Can't a dog just take a squat in peace? Maybe this is payback for all of those times our dogs barged in on us humans while we were in the bathroom.
A Squinty Argentinian Cat
This cat isn't sure what to make of whatever Google vehicle came by and took this photo. He looks rather confused and disturbed by the whole thing. He was just minding his own business on a random street in Argentina when someone, or something, shoved a camera in his face.
This cat's face says, "please get out of my face," and "seriously? We're doing this now?" This cat probably lives on the street, or at the very least spend a lot of time roaming the area. How would you like it if someone started taking pictures of you in your home?
Hold Your Horses
This is one horse that just doesn't want to be held. Come on horse, you're blocking the road! The least you could do is step to the side to let the Google Street View car through. This horse can't be tamed (just like that Miley Cyrus song).
Some animals like to live life by their own rules. They don't care if there's an important world mapping mission going on. The maps can wait, as far as this horse is concerned.
Stuck In A Tight Spot
This little dog was clearly trying to escape someone or something when the Google Street View car drove by. He got his front legs through that hole in the fence, but his back legs were just a little too thick to squeeze through.
This dog probably wanted to chase the Google car just like that dog earlier on this list. Maybe these dogs just want to be famous (if you can call appearing on Google Street View being famous).
Caught Sleeping On The Job
That last cat was from Argentina, but this is a Brazilian cat. He thought it would be a good idea to catch some Zs on the roof of this car. To be fair, that car does look like it has a bed right on top of it. What is that blue platform for if not for cats to sleep on?
I just hope whoever owns this car checked the roof before they drove off. That cat may have gotten a rude awakening.
Stop Monkeying Around
These Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, like to spend their time bathing in natural hot springs. Trust me, if you lived outside in a cold climate next to a natural hot spring, that's where you'd spend most of your time too.
It's a good thing that Google Street View captured these guys on camera because now we know exactly where to go in Japan if we want to hang out with them. Maybe don't get in the water with them, though.
A Moose On The Loose
This photo was likely taken somewhere on Canada's east coast. This moose ran onto the road right behind the Google Street View car. This picture was obviously a total accident. Someone was just in the right place at the right time.
When your mission is to capture photographs of the entire earth, you're bound to get some shots of animals in their natural habitats. This is a photo that's worth framing. Look at those giant antlers! That's one impressive moose.
Why Did The Horse Cross The Road?
Why did the horse cross the road? To get to the other side, of course. We're not quite sure what this horse wanted that was on the other side of the road, but we're pretty sure he was trying to get out of the way of the Google Street View car as fast as possible.
This beautiful pinto horse seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Hopefully, he makes it back to the rest of his herd.
The Palest Moose In The World
Albino animals are super rare because their bright coats don't camouflage very well making them extra susceptible to predators. The chances of seeing an albino moose out in the wild are slim to none. Somehow, this Google Street View car just happened to be driving by as an albino moose was standing beside the road.
This almost seems more like magic than luck. Have you seen Harry Potter? This thing looks like Harry's stag patronus.
This Is How You Herd Sheep In The Future
Gone are the days of shepherds climbing up mountains with the help of a walking stick. Shepherds have four wheelers now. The dogs are really just there for moral support and to pick up any stragglers.
I wonder how the Google Street View car got through this traffic jam. The driver probably had to wait a really long time for this flock of sheep to get a move on. The picture was well worth the wait, though.
The Butterfly Effect
This little butterfly floating by got right in the middle of a Google Street View photo. As far as we're concerned, any street that has a monarch butterfly on it is a good street. These particular butterflies mostly live in North America. They eat milkweed and the toxins in the milkweed act as a defense against predators.
In the winter, all of the monarch butterflies migrate south to Florida and Mexico to enjoy the warmer climate.
This Dog Just Wants A Lift
Somewhere in Japan, some Google vehicle, probably a bike, was riding by. This dog spotted the bike and decided he wanted to go wherever the bike was going. He followed the bike for a while before getting distracted and running off to chase something else.
Maybe he just wanted a lift on the bike because his legs were tired, or maybe he just likes chasing things that move. We'll never know his true motivations. Maybe he was chasing Google Earth fame.
Showing Off His Stolen Snack
Just like that monarch butterfly, this seagull got himself smack dab in the middle of a Google Street View photo— while he was flying in the air, no less. That's no easy feat. This seagull flew right up to the camera to show off the tasty snack he swiped from some garbage can or beachside cafe.
Enjoy that little morsel while it lasts, seagull. Considering the number of seagulls that hang around places that sell food outdoors, I'm surprised there aren't more photos like this.
Cats Always Land On Their Feet, Right?
This cat looks like it's holding on for dear life. I'm not sure why it decided that it needed to climb this stone wall. Maybe because a giant car with a camera on it was barrelling towards it and it needed a quick escape route.
Maybe this cat will climb back down after the car leaves, or maybe it will just hang out on that wall for a while. That stone can't be very easy to climb.
Time To Take Flight
This hawk flew right in front of the Google Street View camera as it was driving across some snowy landscape. He's positioned perfectly over that mountain in the background. There are professional photographers who spend years trying to get photos like this, and this picture happened totally by accident.
Happy accidents make life worth living. This hawk was at the right place at the right time, and now we all have this picture to look at on the internet forever.
An Anonymous Cow
I'm not entirely sure why this cow's face is blurred out. Maybe she didn't want to be featured on Google Street View so Google blurred her face to protect her identity. I find it hard to believe that a cow would have an issue with having her picture taken, but what do I know? I'm not a cow.
This cow was just minding her own business when some vehicle— probably a bike— with a camera on it just drove by and took a picture of her before she could strike a flattering pose.
This Hare Is Jumping Into Frame
This hare is literally leaps and bound ahead of the rest of us. That is some serious height he's got going on. It looks like he jumped way higher than the Google Street View car. This is an epic shot. Pictures like this remind all of us that we share the planet with so many beautiful creatures who can just leap out of the bushes and right into our lives at any moment.
I hope this rabbit isn't afraid of heights.
A Frog Blocking The Lens
This frog doesn't want to share the spotlight with any of the beautiful scenery around him. He wants to be the star of the show. That's why he hopped right onto the camera lens and made this part of Google Street View all about him. How narcissistic.
Clearly, this isn't a Google Street View car, it's a Google Street View boat, which is even cooler. Now we can see gorgeous views of lakes and rivers— or obstructed views of lakes and rivers.
A Penguin Race
These penguins are racing towards something. It looks like Timmy is in the lead, but Charlie is coming up close behind him. In sixth place, we have little Paulie. He's struggling to keep up, but with a bit of perseverance he could catch up to the group.
I don't know where this photo came from or which vehicle drove the camera out here, but I am so grateful that this picture exists. Penguins are way too adorable.
Fish Are Friends
Not all big fish are looking to turn divers into tasty meals. This big sun fish just wants to be friends, and Google Maps gave us proof. Does that face look dangerous to you?
This big guy would fit perfectly in the Finding Nemo universe, and honestly we're surprised the movie didn't feature one. Imagine Dory opening her mouth and talking sunfish instead of whale. Maybe if they make a third one our new best friend will be included.
Is That A Tiger
Before you jump for fear, take a breathe. This fierce cat walking through the urban street is actually a fake. Some pranksters set it up to trick Google Maps, and now we're laughing too.
We know technically this shouldn't included on this list, but the sigh of relief that comes with knowing the truth is worth it to us. Come on, you know you were fooled. We were when it first showed up on our computer screen!
Relaxing In The Street
This herd of sheep got tired of roaming the country side and decided to take a nap. It sure look pretty comfy if you ask us. How long will they stay there?
Our guess is just long enough to cause traffic. There's nothing better on a long drive than being stuck halfway home because the darned sheep in the road won't get out of the way. We've all been there! Have you tried honking your horn?
Come At Me, Bro
This pup just wants to be friends with Google. The car is on the move, and this good boi is desperate for a free ride. There must be snacks aboard.
We love this photo for so many reasons. First, there's the way to doggo is running, with his tongue wagging proudly. Second, we can imagine the Google driver seeing the dog and wanting nothing more than to stop and make a friend. If only they could...
HELLO, THIS IS OSTRICH!
We have no idea how this happened, but this ostrich has put itself in quite the pickle. The car must have stopped long enough for the big bird to get its head through the window. That's the only thing that makes sense.
This picture is proof that you should never stop to feed the wildlife. Once the ostrich figured out which car had the goods, it wouldn't stop bugging the passengers. They better give it what it wants so it will move along!
Lost
If you ended up in the jungle thanks to Google Maps with a herd of elephants we have bad news. The elephants don't know where they are going either. The watering hole was supposed to be two lefts ago!
Now no one gets water, and you're probably further away from your destination than when you started. We thought elephants never forgot! What are they even using Google Maps for. You just can't trust anything in this world anymore.
We Don't Know
Is this dog hoping to play fetch? Is it about to use the street as a bathroom? We just don't know, and honestly we don't want to know, we just want the doggo to get home safely.
The good news is this pup appears to be in a neighborhood, so it couldn't have wandered too far from it's home. Heck, maybe its family was there the whole time and we just can't see them because that just wouldn't be funny.
Horses Frolicking
Yes, these are horses frolicking. And yes, they are at a graveyard. Normally we'd mention how disrespectful this is, but how do you tell that to a horse. The probably lighten the mood just the right way, too.
As far as where these horses are going to; only they know that, but they look like wanderers, enjoying the grass just beyond the horizon. We wonder what Google thought as they drove past this mixed scene.
Stop!
You come to a stop in the road. Guarding your path is a large animal with horns and its child. How do you wish to proceed? This may sound like a video game, but for one Google Maps driver it turned out to be a reality.
What path did they choose? Did they offer the animals snacks? Did they back track and turn around? The choices are endless and only one thing is certain; be careful near those horns!
So Many Birds
There are a lot of bird in this photo! When seagulls find the perfect opportunity to feed they can be relentless, and this flock is hungry! We just hope the poor driver left before they become lunch!
This might look like a scene from a horror movie, but really it's just hilariously bad timing. There is no "don't go in there" moment. Just proceed carefully and don't open any snacks. Now is NOT the time for eating.
Don't Knock It Till You Try It
While everyone seems to be all in that dogs and cats are the best pets, they're wrong. If you've never felt the warm embrace of an alpaca, you are missing out.
These things might not be the cutest creatures on the block, but they're productive and useful. Talk to me when you can ride your dog to brunch like this man rode his alpaca. This guy probably does not even know what Uber is.
A New Species Or a Glitch?
We want to believe that somewhere out there is a dog and wolf hybrid that hops around on two legs. But something tells us that this was simply another glitch in the matrix that is Google Earth.
This hilarious screenshot was discovered by Aaron Rose. In Google Earth, it's located at the Far North Bicentennial Park and was taken in June 2016. We wonder if the owner of this glitchy pup will ever see this?
Ever Seen a Buffalo Herd From Above?
Neither had we. That is until Google Earth made it possible. Google Earth captured this incredible image of a buffalo herd traveling through the Kigosi Game Reserve in Tanzania.
Now if only we could nail our David Attenborough voice, then it'd be like we were hosting our very own episode of Planet Earth. Just think about it, Planet Earth: Google! The concept really just sells itself. Just please remember we were the first to pitch the idea.
Just Your Everyday Big Friendly Giant
Located in Huara, Chile is a big friendly giant which is capable of giving you nightmares for a lifetime. How was this cat drawn? What this proves how cats are really the rulers of the universe and we are just their pawns in the game of life.
Imagine being the person exploring Google Earth and then seeing this. Would you a) immediately find the nearest spaceship shuttle to Mars? Or b) find the country that's geographically the farthest place away from Chile?
The King Of The Jungle
Lion King fans rejoice. This interesting carve out of a lion is right in the middle of a field in Dunstable, UK. Everything this lion sees belongs to it, so if you are in its sight then prepare to bow to the king of the jungle.
It's interesting to note that the movie was actually going to be titled King of the Jungle, but they changed the name when they realized that lions don't really live in the jungle.
"That's A No For Me Dawg" - Randy Jackson
What kind of hipster cult is this? Is this some type of counterculture movement to try to get people to like pigeons? It's not going to happen. There are some people who believe that birds aren't real. They are not these people. They clearly believes birds are at the top of the food chain.
Pigeons are the worst bird alive, period. There's no if's, and's, or but's. They contribute nothing to society other than their stupid squawks and their bread eating ability.
Did Anyone Misplace a Giant Pink Bunny?
The Google Earth shot was taken high above the town of Artesina, Piemont, Italy. The large pink rabbit is actually an art installation by the Gelitin artist group. Rabbit (2005) is constructed from mostly straw and wool and took the artist group around five years to make. Legend has it that dozens of elderly women knitted one ton of wool into the rabbit's skin.
The installation is intended to stay in the grassy opening for 20 years. The group does not maintain the rabbit as decomposition and rotting are all part of their vision.
Um...What?
We're not sure whether to laugh or tremble in fear from this Google Earth capture. This shot was taken as Buzz Mill, a popular coffee shop in Austin, Texas.
As is the case with many businesses, Google Earth ventures inside the coffee shop, which looks completely normal at first. But click forward and head to the game room and you'll be met with these patron donning full-on animal costumes. Funny? Weird? We'll go with both.
We Get It, You Like Firefox.
We get it, you like Firefox. No need to go putting the logo in our crops. This Firefox logo was constructed by fans of the web browser who took just 24 hours to complete their project.
The Firefox crop circle stretches 220 feet wide and is located in an oat field near Amity, Oregon. It's completely invisible from the road but unmistakable from the sky! If you really love this web browser, then you officially know where to go for your next vacation!
Take A Dip...Or Not
No one has quite figured out what, exactly, is in the water next to this marina, but one thing is for sure -- we're not going anywhere near it. Step aside, Loch Ness Monster, there's a new water monster in town, and it looks far more terrifying than any of the supposed Nessie sightings we've ever seen.
To us, it looks like a big crab, but crabs don't get that large! This has to be some sort of optical illusion, and we want to know what the trick is.
