2018 Emmy Awards: Best Dresses & Suits Worn By The Stars
2018 marked the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and the stars did not disappoint. Dramatic gowns, unique ornamentation and off-the-shoulder dresses were a few of the popular choices on the red carpet. The men also stepped up their game with some incredible suits. Throw in a surprise proposal, and you've got yourself a show.
We also love seeing all of our favorite television stars mingling with each other, and celebrating the best shows and actors on TV. So who did the Emmy's the best? We think these stars absolutely rocked the red carpet.
Joey King Didn't Look Like A Rookie
Although it was actress Joey King's first Emmy Awards appearance at nineteen years old, she looked like a total natural walking the carpet. Designed by Zac Posen, King's gorgeous gown had plenty of volume with a plum tone.
The Kissing Booth star twirled and smiled as she headed into the awards show, bringing Posen's design to life. We're not sure where her boyfriend and co-star Jacob Elordi was. Maybe the dress took over his spot in the car.
Angela Sarafyan and Stefani Robinson Are Emmy-Ready
if anyone watching the Emmy Awards said they didn't notice Angela Sarafyan's dress, they were lying. The Westwood actress' stunning gown dazzled with sparkle embellishments over a midnight black gown.The timeless dress was signed by Christian Siriano, beautifully cut and flattering. Sarafyan opted for a simple hairstyle and earrings.
Pictured with Sarafyan is Stefani Robinson, the sole female writer of the series Atlanta who was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding writing for a Comedy Series. She wore a playful tiered gown, combining a flashy silver top and long sheer. Keep watching this woman, at only 26-years-old she's out to achieve it all.
Suzanne Cryer and Ellie Kemper Are Here, Y'all
How cute are these two ladies? Power suits were definitely a thing at the 2018 Emmy Awards and actress Suzanne Cryer was one of the women rocking it the best. The Silicon Valley star turned it up a notch with her silver suit embroidered with a red hot floral print.
Stars of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt arrived at the Emmy's wearing a beautiful pink strapless dress. The pink dress complimented her red hair and warm-toned makeup and accessories.
Is That Chris Sullivan?!
This Is Us star Chris Sullivan didn't just rent an ordinary tux for the 70th Annual, he pulled out all the stops. Fans might have had to do a double take as Sullivan doesn't look like he does on the silver screen portraying Toby. Maybe more like Hammond from Stranger Things, with a wardrobe makeover.
Sullivan's suit resembled a smoking jacket, paired with a red tie. Although the Mirror hated on his wardrobe choice, saying he "commanded attention for the wrong reasons..." we'd give him a high five.
A Surprise Proposal!
Director Glenn Weiss went home with an Emmy Award, and a new fiance. When Weiss went on stage to accept his Award, he turned to his girlfriend sitting in the audience, Jan Svendsen, and said, "Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And Mom was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."
The crowd went wild, Svendsen accepted his proposal, and now anyone planning to propose has a hard act to follow.
Darren Criss Wins Emmy And Best Fiance Award
Actor Darren Criss showed up to the 2018 Emmy Awards dressed to impress, and left a winner. Criss took home an award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a limited series or movie for starring in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
After being handed the award he gushed, "Oh my God, you guys are witnessing the most extraordinary moment of my life thus far." Before leaving the stage, he acknowledged his fiance Mia Swier. He said, "My darling Mia, you roll the windows down and pump the music up in my life."
Eris Baker Is 12 Years Young
NBC's drama This Is Us brought the star power when it came to casting (Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown) but they also shown the spotlight on up-and-coming actors. Eris Baker was brought on to play the part of Tess Pearson, Randall's daughter.
She's just 12-years-old but she's walking the Emmy's carpet with the best in the business. She won her first Screen Actor's Guild award in 2018 and This Is Us was up for several Emmy nominations. Actor Ron Cephas Jones ended up taking home the Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series Award.
Noah Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo
Stranger Things cast was in full force at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and that included young actors Noach Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo. These kids are only in their early teens (Matarazzo is 16, and Schnapp is just 13!) and they're already making appearances at the Emmy's.
There's no doubt that Stranger Things has launched their acting careers, and we can't wait to see where these dapper young lads end up next!
Yvonne Strahovski, Tim Loden, Plus One
Too pregnant to go to the Emmy's? No such thing for Yvonne Strahovski. The gorgeous The Handmaid's Tale star walked the carpet with her husband Tim Loden. Clearly, she needed to have her dress tailored at the last minute to accommodate her plus one.
Her Samaurai frock dress is designed by Warm and features patterned black silk. Her husband accompanied her in a tailored black suit and suede loafers. The couple looks happy as can be to welcome their new addition soon!
Xosha Roquemore
The talented Xosha Roquemore walked the carpet at the Emmy's wearing a gorgeous single shade draped gown. You know her from Precious and The Mindy Project. She paired her gown with gold jewelry, including bangle earrings.
Her boyfriend, actor Lakeith Standfield was also in attendance. The couple has been dating since August 2015 and have a child together, but prefer to keep them out of the spotlight.
Giuliana Rancic Is Back!
TV HostGiuliana Rancic has gone through a lot in recent years, including surviving breast cancer. But after taking a break to move to Chicago and raise her son with her husband, she'll be returning to TV.
Just weeks before the 2018 Emmy's, Rancic returned to her anchor job at E! News. She said, "Returning to host E! News is every bit as thrilling to me today as it was 16 years ago." She will also return to co-hosting red carpet events.
Mandy Moore Sparkled And Shined
Everyone was elated to see the This Is Us cast reunited at the Emmy Awards, and that included the matriarch of the series, Mandy Moore. She showed up to the Emmy's wearing a sparkling gold and black dress designed by Rodarte.
She revealed to Hollywood Life that Rodarte came over to her house to discuss the dress and select the fabrics. With a plunging neckline and a unique tea-length, this dress captured a lot of attention!
Joe Keery and Maika Monroe Were A Vision
It's always nice to have your significant other with you during important times in your career, and this couple set the carpet on fire with their gorgeous look. Joe Keery and girlfriend Maika Monroe captured attention as Keery's Stranger Things cast all met up at the event.
Stranger Things was up for five awards, but left empty handed. That's okay, because they were looking sharp and there to support others who took home Emmy's that night.
Sydney Sweeney's Sweet Look
Actress Sydney Sweeney of The Handmaid's Tale showed up to the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards in style. She wore a beautiful strapless gown designed by Reem Acra. The light pink floral pattern was elegant and feminine, and she paired it with silver diamond accessories.
While many other who attended the event chose to go the bold and powerful route, Sweeney adopted a softer, sweeter look, and we give it an 'A.'
Jessica Biel's Man Couldn't Be More Proud
Actress Jessica Biel received an Emmy nomination for her role in The Sinner. Although she didn't end up winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a limited series or movie she stunned on the red carpet.
Biel attended the Awards Show with her husband Justin Timberlake, who couldn't hide how proud he was that his wife was recognized. "I'm more geeked out than she is!" Timberlake told Rancic. "I'm just so proud to be here and see this happen for her."
RuPaul Showed Up and Blowed Up
RuPaul had a big night at the 2018 Emmy's! He was nominated for three awards, two of which he took home for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program and Outstanding Host for RuPaul's Drag Race.
He didn't show up in an ordinary black suit, of course. RuPaul's light grey suit featured a black abstract detail on the left side. He also paired his look with bright orange dress shoes that very few could pull off. We think he managed just fine, though.
Evan Rachel Wood Brought Her Voice With Her
There's beautiful dresses and then there are dresses that redefine what's possible. Actress Evan Rachel Wood wowed in her tuxedo dress, which she wore to show solidarity for the Time's Up Movement.
Wood brought activist Amanda Nguyen as her date, and took every opportunity to speak on the issues she's passionate about bringing exposure to, including families that have been separated at the border. "[We] testified in Congress together,” Wood told Rancic.“I think we’re at a crucial time in history right now, especially for women and civil rights.”
Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe
This stunning couple has been together since college! Actress Ryan Michelle Bathe and her husband Sterling K. Brown both appear on This Is Us. Brown is part of the main cast, while Bathe has a reoccurring role. Heading into Emmy's weekend, Brown posted a video of Bathe looking drop dead gorgeous in a different dress.
It's clear that Brown loves having his lovely wife on his arm as they celebrate at the Emmy's. Although neither took an award home that night, we're happy they showed up to show off their style and romance.
Natalia Dyer Shines In A Gold Dress
Natalia Dyer wore a stunning gold dress that was reminiscent of Old Hollywood. The Stranger Things actress attending the awards show with her co-star and boyfriend Charlie Heaton. While they may have denied rumors last year that they were a couple IRL, they didn't try to dodge the rumors this year!
Dyer's acting career is heating up with her role as nancy Wheeler in Stranger Things. The girl just finished studying at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU, and is ready to take the world by storm.
Samantha Elizabeth
Some websites placed Samantha Elizabeth on the 'worst dressed' list for the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy's, but we don't agree. The model and media correspondent wore a white dress with cut out shoulders and a slit down the middle. She later posted on Instagram that she got her dress from Fashion Nova.
She appeared cool, calm, and collected as she walked the red carpet before the Awards Show. Afterwards, she put her media hat on and asked the winners some questions.
