Out With The Old, In With The New: Netflix Content Coming And Leaving In May
In May 2021, it's out with the old and in with the new as Netflix says goodbye to some fan-favorite content and hello to new TV shows, movies, and docu-series. While subscribers only have so much time left to watch Batman Begins or 17 Again, there's the last half of Lucifer season five and the comedy Due Date to look forward to! And that's not all.

Coming: Lucifer (Season 5B)
Fans will be pleased to learn that the highly-anticipated second half of Lucifer season five is finally making its way to the Netflix streaming platform in May. Finally, viewers will see what happened to Lucifer, Amenadiel, Detective Chole Decker, Detective Dan, Maze, Dr. Linda Martin, and even Ella after "dear old dad" showed up during the grand finale of season five's first half.
Get ready because this second half is sure to be quite the ride.
Leaving: 17 Again
Subscribers aren't going to want to miss out on the chance to see Zac Efron in his shaggy hair days in the comedic film 17 Again. Living a very dull life in a failed marriage, Mike O'Donnell is transported back to his glory days as a 17-year-old high school athlete.
There, he's back to being the basketball star. But everything goes sideways when Mike realizes he doesn't want to be 17 again. Unfortunately, this film is getting the boot from the platform in May, so hurry up and watch it!
Coming: Back To The Future Trilogy (All Of Them!)
Great Scott! In May 2021, all three of the Back to the Future films are heading to the Netflix streaming platform. Subscribers can embark on nutty adventures with Marty McFly and crazy Doc Brown as the journey to and from the future.

Finally, he returns to Gotham City with one goal: to purge his home of its corruption. But at what cost? The first film in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, this film is one that definitely needs to be watched before it gets the boot.
Coming: Notting Hill
It wouldn't be a new month of Netflix content without a classic rom-com thrown into the mix! In May, it's the 1999 film Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. After a chance encounter over a split glass of orange juice, bookstore owner William Thacker and actress Anna Scott start a whirlwind romance.
But after their drastically different lifestyles get in the way, the two don't know if their love is real. Is it? Subscribers are going to have to watch and see!
Leaving: I Am Legend
In May 2021, Netflix will say goodbye to one solid film, the Will Smith-led zombie movie I Am Legend. After a man-made plague wipes out a solid chunk of humanity, leaving them as nothing more than blood-thirsty zombies, Robert Neville wanders New York alone (don't get us started on his dog), trying desperately to find a cure.
Horrifying, sad, and a bit thrilling, I am Legend should be on every subscriber's must-see list before it leaves the platform.
Coming: Dead Again In Tombstone
The strange Ghost Rider-esk film Dead Again In Tombstone is coming to Netflix in May. Starring Danny Trejo, the film follows Guerrero De La Cruz as he goes from being the leader of the Blackwater Gang to a double-crossed guy who finds himself making a deal with the devil.
Instead of staying in internal flames, Cruz finds himself resurrected with one goal: to kill his former gang and collect the souls of outlaws for Lucifer.
Leaving: The Dark Knight
Arguably one of the best Batman films, The Dark Knight is, unfortunately, getting booted from the Netflix streaming platform in May. The second installment of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, this film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman as he faces one of his arch enemies, The Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker.
Because of The Joker's antics, Batman starts skirting a fine line between the hero he wants to be and the vigilante the anarchist believes him to be.
Coming: Due Date
The comedy due Date, aka the modern retelling of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, is coming to Netflix in May. Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis, the film follows two unlikely people as they make their way across the country, running into more than one obstacle along the way.
Between the men getting placed on the "No Fly" list, misplacing money, and passing out due to severe blood loss, the film is a laugh-riot from beginning to end.
Leaving: Mud
The 2012 drama Mud is leaving Netflix in May, and subscribers aren't going to want to miss the opportunity to watch Matthew McConaughey as a fugitive who wants nothing more than to be reunited with the love of his life.
Hiding out in the Arkansas wilderness, two teenagers stumble upon Mud, a murderer with a fascinating backstory. But there is way too much detail in the film to even begin to explain what occurs; subscribers are just going to have to watch.
Coming: Never Back Down
For those subscribers who enjoy a good fight film, look no further than Never Back Down, coming to Netflix in May. After moving from Iowa to Orlando, Jake Tyler is angry and gets beat up in a high school fight club.
Then, he's introduced to MMA. But the instructor will only teach Jake under one condition: no fighting outside of the gym. Does he listen to his teacher? Or will Jake go after the guy who beat him up for flirting with his girlfriend?
Leaving: Platoon
The Academy Award-winning film Platoon is making its way off the Netflix streaming platform in May. Based on director Oliver Stone's personal experience during the Vietnam War, the film is raw, emotionally driven, and brings up multiple questions surrounding the morality of war.
Starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, a young Johnny Depp, and more, this is one of those war films subscribers aren't going to want to skip over.
Coming: The Sons Of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness
True crime enthusiasts are going to be thrilled to learn that a new docu-series is on the way, focusing on the journalist who became a bit obsessed with Son of Sam. The limited series follows the aftermath of David Berkowitz's conviction and how journalist Maury Terry was convinced he didn't act alone.
From a respected journalist to a man who was seemingly chasing ghosts, this docu-series follows Terry as he works to uncover the truth about the Son(s) of Sam.
Leaving: Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law take on the iconic roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in the first installment of the Sherlock Holmes franchise. As fun as that sounds, the film isn't going to be available on Netflix for much longer.
So, subscribers need to buckle down and watch to see if Holmes and Watson are able to figure out the madmen who are trying to take over Britain.

For subscribers who are in the market for a fun, family-friendly animated movie, look no further than Open Season when it's added to Netflix's catalog in May. Content entertaining tourists and living in the park ranger's barn, everything changes for the grizzly bear Boog when he's tranquilized and set loose in the wild.
Now, he's living like a normal bear, hiding from hunters who want to hurt the forest and its creatures. But Boog isn't going to stand for it, and with the help of his forest friends, they give the hunters a run for their money.
Leaving: Saving Private Ryan
Emotional, suspenseful, and definitely raw, Saving Private Ryan is one of the more realistic war films ever to grace the silver screen. Unfortunately, Netflix subscribers are running out of time to watch it, as the movie is set to leave the streaming giant in May.
The movie follows Captain John Miller and his men as they race against time and the enemy while overcoming their own struggles with war to find Private James Ryan.
Coming: Selena: The Series (Season 2)
In May 2021, the second season of Selena: The Series will be added to the Netflix catalog. Following the life of the legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, the series dives into her rise to fame and the sacrifices she had to make on the way to stardom.
The final episode of season one saw Suzette and Abraham finally finding out about Selena and Chris' relationship, with the latter kicking Chris off the tour bus even with Selena's protests.

The show follows a group of young heroes as they try to live up to their famous parents, the first-ever heroes back in the 1930s who are now part of the "elder council." For any superhero-lovers out there, get ready because this show is sure to be a hit.

Sadly the much-loved BBC series Sherlock is leaving Netflix in May. That means subscribers are going to want to hop on the streaming platform and binge-watch the four seasons as quickly as possible because they're not going to want to miss the chance to see Benedict Cumberbatch's brilliant take on the iconic Detective Sherlock Holmes nor Martin Freeman's Dr. John Watson.
