Awkward Photos Of Meghan Markle That Are Totally Relatable
Meghan Markle isn't always camera-ready. Just like the rest of us, she has plenty of awkward moments. Unlike us, because she's frequently in the public eye, many of these moments are caught on camera. The wind is often the culprit, wreaking havoc on Meghan's hair while she's trying her best to appear poised. Other times her heels are sinking into the sand while she's meeting locals or a tag is left on her dress. Nevertheless, she carries on and gets the job done-- just another day in the life of the Duchess of Sussex.
Trench Coat-Turned-Cape In New Zealand
In October 2018, Meghan and Prince Harry departed on their Autumn tour. The couple traveled for 16 days, visiting Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand. Meghan had to plan her outfits accordingly, while still adjusting to the life of a member of the British royal family, including her wardrobe.
Unlike Kate Middleton, who has a stylist, Meghan selects her own outfits. Here she's pictured wearing a Karen Walker Banks Trench Coat, priced at $750, paired with black suede Sarah Flint Jay Pumps, priced at $395.
She Left The Tag On Her Dress In Tonga
Arriving in Tonga during her and Prince Harry's Autumn tour, Meghan wore a red dress that matched the shade of red on the Tongan flag. Battling the wind at the Fua'amotu Airport, photographers couldn't help but notice that the tag was still on the Duchess' dress.
Today deemed it a "relatable" moment as many of us have left a tag on our clothing a time or two. Hopefully, someone in her company pointed it out to Meghan soon after her arrival.
Her First Engagement With The Queen... This Is How It's Going
One month after marrying Prince Harry, Meghan had her first royal engagement with the Queen-- talk about a lot of pressure! She was still navigating the royal wardrobe and made sure to wear an outfit that covered her shoulders to the Catalyst Museum.
However, the royal family also made a stop in Widnes, to open a road bridge in the community. As you can see by the photo, it was a windy day, and Meghan only had one hand free to hold down her locks.
Sinking In The Sand In Sydney
In October 2018, Meghan traveled to Bondi Beach in Sydney Australia. There, she met with a local surfing group that was working to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.
Not aware that she would be standing on the sand for the event, the Duchess struggled to keep her wedged heels from sinking in the sand. eventually, she gave up and took off her wedges entirely, in another relatable moment.
Taming Her Mane In South Africa
Now that Meghan has been in the public eye for a few years, we can see the various hairstyles she prefers. Born with naturally curly hair, Meghan opts to do straightening treatments at the salon, according to her former UK hairstylist, Theonie Kakoulli.
She's reportedly never had hair extensions but keeps her long locks healthy using an oil spray and hair masks. She also uses an anti-frizz product, but none of that really helps when the wind throws a strong gust her way.
In Need Of A Tailor In Scotland
Here is another relatable moment with Meghan Markle. She traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland where the temperatures hover in the mid-40s with some rainy days in February. Meghan wore a Burberry wool and cashmere blend coat that gave a nod to a traditional Scottish print and colors.
But the Duchess should have thought to have her Veronica Beard Adley pants tailored before stepping out! The pants fell to the ground, totally covering her heeled boots as she left a cafe in Edinburgh.
Cracking Up With The New York Yankees
In June 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited London Stadium where the Boston Red Sox played the New York Yankees. Seeing as it was just a month after baby Archie was born, the Yankees manager presented Meghan with a gift for her son-- a uniform with "Archie" spelled on the back.
Meghan found the gesture hilariously adorable and broke out into laughter. Others in the office appeared quite amused by the Duchess' reaction, but she couldn't help but be her authentic self in the moment.
Spotted In The Royal Box At Wimbledon In 2016
At the time this photo was taken, on June 28, 2016, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were only rumored to be dating. The whispers grew louder as the Suits actress was spotted in London, attending the tennis championship in Wimbledon.
Not only that, but she joined Prince Harry in the royal box. Meghan made it seem like she was there to cheer on Serena Williams, a friend of hers, but more than likely she flew out to spend time with her new beau.
Stilletos And Turf Don't Mix
Since becoming a member of the British royal family, Meghan Markle's style has changed a bit. While she still loves to wear heels, her selections are more often neutral-colored pumps rather than striking stiletto's, these days.
Some of Meghan's favorite footwear include Deneuve Suede Pumps in black and red, Carolyne 75 Asymmetric Strap Pumps, and Aquazurra stilettos, that she's shown wearing while she sinks into the grass while watching Prince Harry play polo.
Launching A Clothing Line In London
Sometimes we need a moment to ourselves, but that's nearly impossible when you're the Duchess of Sussex. In September 2019, Meghan launched a clothing line that's helping provide professional clothing to unemployed women in Britain, to help them find jobs.
Meghan designed the line of women's work attire with her friend, designer Misha Nonoo. The company has a buy-one-give-one model, giving away an item of clothing to someone in need for each item that sells. She said, "As women, it is 100 percent our responsibility, I think, to support and uplift each other."
The Winds Of Johannesburg
During her royal tour to South Africa, Meghan was all smiles. The tour began around four months after Archie was born, and Meghan was adjusting to motherhood and getting back to supporting her charities.
Getting back to work also meant stepping back into the spotlight. Meghan did her best to represent the royal family, just months before she and Prince Harry would announce that they're stepping down as senior members of the royal family.
When She Still Had Social Media In 2016
Gone are the days that we see Meghan holding a smartphone in her hands! This photo was taken at Wimbledon on July 4, 2016, before she became engaged to Prince Harry.
Once they became engaged, Meghan was instructed to delete her social media profiles and take down her beloved lifestyle blog, The Tig. All of her traveling photos and snaps of Meghan lounging around her Toronto home with her dogs were gone, overnight.
No Time To Waste In Birkenhead
As a member of the British royal family, Meghan was coached on a long list of etiquette rules she must follow. Part of that includes how to carry on conversations while being poised for the camera.
Have you ever tried to smile throughout an entire conversation? It's similar to smiling politely throughout a job interview, only Meghan has to practice this poise every day. It sure doesn't look easy! According to etiquette, someone should have offered to take her coat by now.
Spotted Leaving An Irish Pub
Meghan was able to indulge a little when she and Prince Harry visited Northern Ireland during their royal tour in March 2018. They sat down for lunch at a local Irish pub in one of Belfast's oldest buildings, where Prince Harry joked, "Are you open? We want food!"
They also toured the Crown Liquor Saloon, where Meghan was photographed leaving as it started to rain. She candidly shrugs while talking to a local outside of the historic saloon.
Rushing Past The Press In London
An American, Meghan grew up in Los Angeles but didn't experience the celebrity status that she would step into as a royal. She once wrote on her blog, "I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados."
Attending events in London as a member of the British royal family must feel extremely foreign to Meghan. She told Vanity Fair, "Nothing about me has changed. I'm still the same person that I am, and I've never defined myself by my relationship."
Ditching The Royal Rules While Watching Tennis
Again, the Duchess of Sussex appeared at Wimbledon to watch Serena Williams defend her title. She wore a necklace with the letter "A" for Archie. While Meghan has limited access to the royal family jewels, she prefers to select her own jewelry to wear and prefers small, delicate pieces.
Meghan looked very American at the event, sporting a messy bun and a straw hat-- something you'd never see Kate Middleton styling.
Visiting A University In South Africa
In October 2019 while on her royal tour of Africa, Meghan visited the University of Johannesburg. Students were surprised to see the Duchess of Sussex on their campus and cheered as she arrived. Photographers captured her appearance, but not all of the photos proved to be perfect.
Meghan wore a light tan trench dress designed by Banana Republic, paired with matching heels. She spoke to the students about the importance of empowering women. She said, "When a woman is empowered it changes absolutely everything in the community."
Laughing With College Students
In October 2018, Meghan visited the University of Chichester to see their new Engineering and Digital Technology Park. Students were elated to see the Duke and Duchess and Meghan appeared genuinely excited to see them, too.
A lot of the photos taken of Meghan when she's smiling and laughing are during her visits with students and other young people around the world. While a polite smile and wave would have been proper, Meghan couldn't help but talk with all of the students that gathered to see her.
Sneaking Sips In The Kitchen
Meghan spends a great deal of time visiting with charities and putting plans into action to help communities around the world. In November 2018 the Duchess visited the Hubb Community Kitchen in North Kensington for her first philanthropic effort as an official member of the royal family.
A group of women run the kitchen that helps feed people in the local community who would otherwise go hungry, whether it be due to unemployment or a disaster like the Grenfell Tower fire. Meghan met with the women of Hubb Community Kitchen and partnered with them to release a cookbook that helps support their organization.
Acting Like A Kid Around Animals
Part of the Autumn tour included a stop at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. While everyone else appeared infatuated with the royal couple's visit, the koalas didn't seem too impressed with the Duke and Duchess.
This Koala named Rubi gave birth to two joeys, which the zoo named "Harry" and "Meghan" in honor of the royal couple. While Meghan's reaction to the koala is relatable, having a baby koala named after you is not.
Flying Solo For An Art Exhibit
In September 2018, Meghan attended the Oceania exhibit at the Royal Academy of the Arts. It was her first solo outing as a royal, without Prince Harry by her side. She wore a black Givenchy dress to the event and swiftly walked the red carpet alone.
Typically, someone helps a royal get in and out of their car, but seen here, Meghan steps out by herself and shuts the car door behind her.
Ooo, Snacks
Meghan was spotted finding the food while visiting the Tembisa Township. As part of their royal tour of South Africa, Meghan and Prince Harry spoke to young locals about working hard and contributing to their community.
Meghan is a self-described foodie and spent a month in Italy after reading Eat, Pray, Love. The Duchess loves pasta, fries, and eggs, and often shared photos of her enjoying a glass of wine on her Instagram when she still had it.
Taking A Skype Call In London
Why do we do this? You know what we're talking about. Why is it that when you pick up a phone call, or answer a video call, you react like the person on the other end has difficulty hearing? We raise the volume of our voices, we incorporate hand gestures like a flight attendant...
In January 2019 Meghan visited the City University in London and hopped on a Skype call, much to the surprise of a student in Ghana on the other end.
