Everything Coming To Netflix In March 2020
Every month Netflix brings fresh and enticing content to its viewers. It was one of the first streaming platforms to include original content and now the company cranks out multiple original movies, TV shows, comedy specials, and documentaries on a consistent basis.
Many fan-favorite original series are returning for another season including Ozark, Ugly Delicious, and Castlevania. And some famous Hollywood stars such as Mark Wahlberg, Octavia Spencer, and Amy Ryan are bringing their talents to Netflix in original content. Here is everything that will appear on Netflix throughout March of 2020.
Self-Made: Inspired by The Life of Madam C.J. Walker
One of the most anticipated limited series coming to Netflix is Self-Made: Inspired by The Life of Madam C.J. Walker. Octavia Spencer will star as Sarah Breedlove (Madam C.J. Walker) who pioneered the hair care industry and became the first female African American self-made millionaire.
The series is set to premiere on March 20 and was inspired by her great-great-granddaughter's novel, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker. Other stars joining Spencer on the show include Blair Underwood, Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, Kevin Carroll, and Bill Bellamy.
Tigertail
Alan Yang was one of the first people to create original content on Netflix after working with Aziz Ansari on Master of None. His new project is a movie he wrote, produced, and directed called Tigertail. It's about a multi-generational family, starting in 1950s Taiwan up to present-day New York.
The protagonist, Grover, is forced to move to America with a woman he doesn't connect with, leaving behind his true love and home. Netflix hasn't announced the exact date Tigertail will drop, but it will likely be one of the top releases in March.
Spenser Confidential
Mark Wahlberg is teaming up with director Peter Berg for their fifth collaboration in Netflix's Spenser Confidential. The movie will center around an ex-felon-turned-police-detective (Wahlberg) who returns to Boston to uncover an ongoing conspiracy. Other stars who make appearances include Colleen Camp, Alan Arkin, Winston Duke, Post Malone, Iliza Schlesinger, and Marc Maron.
Similar to all Wahlberg and Berg movies, it was filmed and set in Boston, Massachusetts. Spenser Confidential is loosely based on Ace Atkin's novel Wonderland and character names created by Robert B. Parker. It's set to be released on March 6.
Lost Girls
Netflix has become the hub for true crime dramas with shows such as Unbelievable and Mindhunter. Their newest installment is the mystery thriller Lost Girls, starring Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne, Lola Kirke, and Oona Laurence. The film follows a mother fed up with police inactivity, so she goes to search for her daughter after she disappears in Long Island.
Lost Girls was based on the true story of a family's search for their daughter while the case remained open for years. It was even turned into a book by investigative journalist Robert Kolker. True crime fans can catch Lost Girls on Netflix on March 13.
Ozark (Season 3)
The hit Netflix original series Ozark will be returning with its third season on March 27. Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner's characters are back and expanding on their lucrative business empire. There will also be some new additions to the cast including NCIS: New Orleans actress Madison Thompson.
Since its premiere, Ozark received numerous Hollywood accolades including Jason Bateman's win for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Julia Garner also took home the trophy at the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Castlevania (Season 3)
Anime and video game lovers will rejoice after finding out that Castlevania is set to return for its third season on Netflix. Castlevania is an animated series based on the video game franchise of the same name by Konami and has become quite a fan-favorite show.
The cast is comprised of mainly European voice actors including Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont, James Callis as Adrian "Alucard" Tepes, and Graham McTavish as Vlad Dracula Tepes. Season three is comprised of 10 episodes and will be released on March 5.
Ugly Delicious (Season 2)
Not all of the Netflix original series are scripted. David Chang's Ugly Delicious is one of the top travel and food series that shows him exploring the world's most interesting cuisines with his celebrity friends. Since the first season was well-received, he is returning with a second season that's set to premiere on March 6.
Viewers who love Chang's demeanor and the way he presents food and culture should also check out his other Netflix series called Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner with guests including Seth Rogen and Chrissy Teigen.
Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends (Season 23)
It was recently announced that Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends found its new home with Netflix. The show had previously bounced around between PBS Kids and Nickelodeon, but now the show will be exclusively on Netflix starting March 15.
The show has been around for quite some time and will drop its 23rd season, plus release previous seasons and specials, on the streaming site. Since some of Netflix's core child audience has shifted to Disney+ this is a way to give them a variety of age-appropriate content. The 24th season will be available later in 2020.
Cop Out
Buddy cop movies are made all the time and one will be added to Netflix very shortly. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan star as cops trying to catch a thief in 2010's Cop Out. Critics agreed that this type of film was too overdone and it ended up with a Golden Schmoes Award nomination for Worst Movie of the Year.
Even though it doesn't have the most original premise, it's still filled with action, comedy, and A-list actors. Cop Out will be available to stream on Netflix starting March 1.
Paradise PD (Season 2)
Netflix has a large collection of animated shows made for adults. Paradise PD is about a group of small-town police officers who are bad at their jobs and do everything with comedic vulgarity. The cast includes famous voice actors David Herman, Tom Kenny, Sarah Chalke, Cedric Yarbrough, Dana Snyder, and Kyle Kinane.
The show received mainly negative reviews, with critics thinking the blunt humor and dirty gags don't allow the viewers to gain emotional attachment, but some praise it for the pop culture jokes. The second season of Paradise PD will air on March 6.
Frank & Lola
The story of Frank & Lola involves a chef in Las Vegas (Michael Shannon) who falls in love with a mysterious young woman (Imogen Poots) who's new to town. The two quickly get into a serious relationship filled with obsession, jealousy, betrayal, and revenge. Frank & Lola will be available to stream on Netflix on March 1.
The film first premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was considered to be one of the best movies that year. The Hollywood Reporter summarized it as a "haunting dissection of male jealousy."
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day was the first in Garry Marshall's holiday movie trilogy and it came with some of the most celebrity cameos of all time. The film follows intertwining couples either falling in or out of love on Valentine's Day. Celebs such as Taylor Swift, Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, and many more fill out this all-star cast.
Also, real-life aunt and niece Julia and Emma Roberts star in the movie together. Fans of the film will be able to stream the movie on Netflix starting March 1.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
The plot of 2009's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is loosely based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as the protagonist is visited by three ghosts. It stars Matthew McConaughey as a notorious playboy and womanizer who realizes he has feelings for his childhood friend (Jennifer Garner).
There are also some famous faces in the supporting roles including Michael Douglas as McConaughey's uncle and Emma Stone as the Ghost of Girlfriends Past. Netflix viewers will be able to stream the film on March 1.
The Story Of God With Morgan Freeman (Season 3)
Morgan Freeman had the pleasure of playing God a couple of times in Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty and now he has his own show centered around the topic. The Story of God with Morgan Freeman is his quest to discover how different religions and civilizations view the afterlife, the act of creation, evolution, and other philosophical questions.
The third season will be available to stream on Netflix on March 1, with episodes about the Devil, multiple Gods, what God may look like, sins, divine secrets, and holy laws.
He's Just Not That Into You
One of the most memorable romantic comedies of the 2000s was He's Just Not That Into You. It starred Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, and more as they figured out their romantic problems. The characters' lives are intertwined throughout the movie via the central character Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin).
The film was actually based on a self-help book aimed at teaching single women how to read signals from the men they're interested in. During the film's opening weekend, it topped the box office with a total U.S. gross of about $94 million. It will be available to stream on Netflix starting March 1.
Semi-Pro
Similar to how Jim Carrey was the king of comedy in the 1990s, Will Ferrell changed the entire comedy movie scene during the early 2000s. Almost every year he led a quote-worthy funny film that makes viewers go back and watch years later. One of those movies was 2008's Semi-Pro.
Ferrell played Jackie Moon, the owner, coach, and player of a fictional basketball team who tries to get them into the NBA. Other notable cast members include Woody Harrelson, Will Arnett, André Benjamin, and Maura Tierney. Semi-Pro will be available to stream on Netflix starting March 1.
Kung Fu Panda 2
The Kung Fu Panda franchise became a massive success and led to several sequels and spin-offs. Audiences may recognize the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, and more. The second installment of the Kung Fu Panda franchise will be available to watch on March 1.
This sequel has Po the panda and his friends fighting to stop a peacock villain from taking over China. It received a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year at the Academy Awards, but lost to Rango.
Life as We Know It
Netflix will be adding a lot of romantic comedies to their March line-up and of them that will be available to stream starting March 1 is Life as We Know It. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel star as two single adults forced to become the primary caregivers of a baby girl when her parents get into a car accident.
The movie also features some familiar faces in supporting roles such as Christina Hendricks, Rob Huebel, and Melissa McCarthy. Reviewers thought Heigl and Duhamel had plenty of chemistry together, but critics say there wasn't much for them to do with a dull plot and a poorly-written script. Watch it and decide for yourself.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Netflix recently adapted Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events to an original series, but the books were already turned into a big-screen film in 2004. Jim Carrey was almost unrecognizable as Count Olaf as he tried to steal the great fortune of the Baudelaire children.
It quickly became one of the top-rated children's movies of the early 2000s, with a celebrity cast of Jude Law, Catherine O'Hara, Billy Connolly, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Coolidge, and more. The movie will be released on Netflix on March 1, so viewers can compare it to the series.
Dirty Money (Season 2)
Many of the Netflix original documentaries are expertly done with no bias and lots of hard-hitting facts. Dirty Money will air its second season on March 11 and it aims to investigate untold stories of financial corruption in the world of business.
These particular episodes will focus on topics such as the 1MDB corruption where billions of dollars were siphoned from Malaysia, the Wells Fargo fraud committed by employees, the life cycle of gold, the exploitation of senior citizens with state guardianship, and wrongdoing by the world's biggest plastic producers.
