Groom Kicks Three Sisters Out Of Wedding For Bringing Their Kids Because He Wanted A Child-Free Wedding
As much as weddings are meant to be a time to celebrate love and new beginnings, they're quite stressful. Ensuring that the events go smoothly requires a lot of planning and finances. For that reason, whenever it doesn't go to plan, the bride and groom can go into panic mode.
Reddit user TAway3577 asked if he was in the wrong for turning away his sisters who brought their kids to his wedding. This couple planned for a child-free wedding, so when the groom's three sisters showed up with their kids, he wasn't pleased.
The Bride And Groom Planned For A Child-Free Wedding
The bride and groom wanted a child-free wedding. This is a decision that is more and more common in modern weddings. It saves costs on the extra food as well as having to find ways to entertain the younger crowd.
Having kids at the wedding requires a lot of additional planning and noise.
Everyone Was Okay With It Except His Immediate Family
The couple made sure to make their family and friends all aware of this decision prior to the wedding. Everyone was okay with it except for the groom's immediate family. He has three sisters all with kids from two to ten in age.
"My mom said it was illogical to not allow kids since (1 this never happened in the family and (2 my sisters live towns away so the kids can't be left alone. After a lot of arguing and others getting involved. I stood my ground and they agreed to not bring kids."
The Sisters Showed Up With Their Kids On The Day Anyway
On the day of the wedding, all guests arrived without their kids, except for the groom's sisters.
Upon noticing their arrival the groom went to confront them. The sisters immediately started arguing when the groom insisted he wouldn't let them in with their kids.
Security Had To Get Involved
The groom explains "When I saw My older sister came with her kids in the car I was pissed. I asked why they decided to go against the rule and bring kids. My mom started yelling at me..... Everyone was yelling at me."
The groom had to get the security involved to make them leave. His parents and aunt left shortly after in retaliation.
The Family Gave The Wedding A Negative Review On Social Media
The family was so angry at the groom that during the wedding and after, they sent him a series of "nasty" messages.
His cousin even went to Facebook to post about how terrible their wedding was. The groom felt like his only option was to try and reconcile with the family.
The Groom Attempted To Explain His Side To The Family
The groom waited a few days before gathering his family to explain his perspective. He wanted to make them understand that what they did was wrong.
" I asked If I allowed my sisters with their kids what message does that send to my inlaws and friends who wanted to bring kids but they couldn't?"
It Turns Out His Mom Was Behind It
The groom's sisters argued with him some more instead. It was then that he found that it was actually the mom that encouraged their actions and said that she would "deal" with the groom later.
Even when the groom suggested they could've hired a babysitter, his mom insisted that they wanted to celebrate as a "whole family".
The Family Said He Ruined His Own Wedding
Despite the groom's effort, the family didn't budge or try to see it from his perspective.
"They said that I ruined my own wedding by making a scene. And everyone will always remember my wedding as a disaster because of mine and my wife's child-free bull.
The Family Demanded A Second All-Inclusive Wedding
The groom's family insisted that the only way to fix the problem was to have another wedding party, but to include everyone in this one, especially kids.
"I called them unreasonable. I asked mom where she got the nerve to even demand that? They blamed my wife and claimed it was deliberate."
They Threatened The Wife Too
When the groom left, the family turned on the wife instead. They made their disapproval clear and said that the second wedding suggestion was her chance of fixing the situation.
They threatened that the relationship would just be damaged otherwise.
There Was No Account To The Kids Or Costs Either
The issue that commentators pointed out is that weddings aren't cheap and are fully pre-planned. Every choice matters and should be respected as per the couple's wishes.
One asks:" What did his sisters think would happen at the reception? I'm just picturing them getting to the reception with multiple kids who weren't invited, so they don't have kid-friendly food (or possibly enough food to serve them at all), not enough seats for the extra people, etc."
The Internet Was On His Side
Basically, everyone who read the groom's story agreed that the family's position was petty and inconsiderate. They advised the groom not to bother arguing anymore.
The family knew of the guest list and rules and broke them anyway. The consequences of that are theirs and not the groom's.
