These Comedic Films Streaming On Netflix Are Sure To Make You Laugh
After a long day working from home (while maybe having to entertain your kids), a little comedy is in order. The good news is that we have curated a nice list of comedies that are on the Netflix streaming platform right now.
Everything from Step Brothers to Ferris Bueller's Day Off and mostly everything in between, including Between Two Ferns: The Movie, has been included to help make your movie selection a bit more stress-free. If you need a good laugh, we recommend taking a look below. Who knows, some good-humored chuckling might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Monty Python And The Holy Grail
If you're looking for a movie that will have you laughing so hard you start to cry, look no further than Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This film is arguably the career-high for the Monty Python comedy troupe. The movie is a parody film of the classic tale of King Arthur and his knights of the round table.
As this is one of the most-quoted films of all time, you're not going to want to miss your chance at learning some iconic lines. This film is, bear with us, the holy grail for anyone who enjoys good British Humor.
Nacho Libre
Nacho Libre is the perfect move to stream if you need some good old-fashioned comedy. Jack Black stars as Ignacio, a cook at the Oaxaca monastery orphanage who has big dreams of becoming a luchador, a professional wrestler. Unfortunately, wrestling is considered sinful where he lives.
Of course, it's a Jack Black movie, so he decides to pursue his dream to raise money for the orphanage. Hey, at least he's going against the monastery's rules for a good reason! This film is an excellent choice for anyone who needs a feel-good comedy in their life.
The Other Guys
Put Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg together in a film about two New York City detectives that aren't respected at their precinct and you're in for one funny flick. This movie follows the two men as they are partnered together after Wahlberg's character, Terry "Yankee Clipper" Hoitz, shoots Derek Jeter at the World Series.
And that's just the beginning of the film! The rest of the movie showcases the quirky relationship between the two officers. What happens exactly? Well, it looks like you're going to have to log into Netflix and watch The Other Guys to find out for yourself!
Scary Movie
Contrary to popular belief, Scary Movie is not a horror film, but an example of an interesting time in history when people would flock to see parodies of the genre. The film is considered to be a cult classic, making fun of the '90s films Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Ironically, the headline for the film is "No mercy. No shame. No sequel," even though there were four more films added to the franchise. That means once you're done with the original, you're going to want to watch the other four. Trust us; if you need a silly comedy, this is the perfect film.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will have you rolling on the floor laughing because of the absurd plotline. Even so, the flick has since become a cult classic. After watching this film, you'll understand that there is no one we'd rather root for than Scott as he is taking on his girlfriend's seven evil exes, one of whom is Chris Evans.
Yes, you heard that correctly. The best part is that the film's visual effects make it seem as though Scott is playing a video game to win the heart of Ramona. So, strap in and watch as Scott takes on the world to win his lady love.
Step Brothers
Step Brothers might arguably be the pinnacle of Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay's comedic careers. The film follows two grown men, Brennan and Dale, who both live with their single parent. Well, those two parents fall in love, and the two guys are forced to become not only stepbrothers but roommates.
With Ferrell and John C. Reilly running the show, you know that hilarity will ensue, and shenanigans are a foregone conclusion. Oh, and if you've seen this movie already, you know there's nothing better than the quotes!
Men In Black
There's nothing quite like watching Will Smith being introduced to alien life on Earth by Tommy Lee Jones. It's probably one of the funnier things, seeing Smith's facial expressions when he witnesses a guy's head grow back, and when he helps birth an alien baby alongside Jones' laid back, "I've been doing this for years" attitude.
This film is on Netflix and ready for your streaming pleasure. Fair warning: this comedy is not for the faint of heart, with its terrific one-liners, flashy memory-wiping technology, and cat-loving alien king. If you think you're ready, sit back, grab some popcorn, and get ready to laugh a whole lot!
Hot Rod
Critically derided at the time of its release, Hot Rod now has a steady following. Which, historically means it is full of humor that the "critics" couldn't possibly understand. Starring Andy Samberg, Hot Rod follows goofy stuntman Rod Kimble as he prepares to perform the biggest and most dangerous stunt of his career to save the life of his father, who needs heart surgery.
Oh, and plot twist, Kimble is very much accident-prone. With the Lonely Planet star at the head of the film, you better believe it is going to be very funny and entertaining, even though it didn't get the best reviews.
Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle
Netflix has gone through the catalog of Harold & Kumar movies, and now they are back to hosting the original Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. If you're looking for a comedy to lighten up your day, try giving this classic a try. The movie follows Harold and Kumar as they venture to White Castle.
The only issue is that they find themselves on a slew of misadventures on their way to get their cheeseburger fix. This film was a hit in the early 2000s and is just what you need to put a smile on your face.
Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is considered to be one of the best comedy films of all time. And it so happens to be streaming on Netflix right now! Get ready for some good old-fashioned belly laughs watching Bill Murray's character Phil Connors work a Groundhog Day event and, somehow, get trapped in a time loop, destined to relive the day over and over.
The 1993 classic is a film you're not going to want to miss out watching while it's up on the streaming platform. Pro tip: this is one of those movies everyone should see at least once in their life, so now's your chance!
Get Him To The Greek
Riding on the success of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Russell Brand stars in the spin-off film Get Him to the Greek. Brand reprises his role as the rockstar Aldous Snow, but, in this film, we see him going through a personal meltdown and taking talent scout Aaron Green, played by Jonah Hill, along for the ride.
The conflict? Green is entrusted with getting Snow from London to Los Angeles' Greek Theater without any mishaps. Yeah that doesn't happen, and the two go on many ventures between the two cities. You're going to have to watch the movie to see what antics we're talking about!
The Edge Of Seventeen
If you're interested in watching a different kind of comedy, check out The Edge of Seventeen. The film is a coming-of-age story, following Nadine Franklin through her junior year of high school in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. The plot points are very realistic and relatable for anyone who attended high school: boy drama, sibling drama, teacher drama, pretty much any type of drama you can think of.
That being said, the movie is critically acclaimed, and star Hailee Steinfeld even won a Women Film Critics Circle award for Best Young Actress. This film is the perfect mixture of comedy and drama, and one that you should definitely watch.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is the perfect family movie to watch if you're stuck at home. Adapted to the big screen from the popular children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, the film follows an inventor who accidentally unleashes the storm of the century. Unfortunately, the storm consists of giant-sized food items and not rain or snow.
The film is smartly written, the animation is top-notch, and the characters are just downright fun, making the movie enjoyable for everyone in the family. One could say that your next family movie-night forecast might look Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.
Austin Powers (All Of Them)
Mike Myers is the International Man of Mystery in the Austin Powers trilogy. So, if you have a long day of doing zilch, just know that Netflix has the entire trilogy on its streaming service for your lazy day pleasure. The films poke fun and the typical dramatic spy films, such as James Bond and the British television show Jason King, while making a parody out of the super suave international spy cliche.
If you have a full day of doing nothing planned, then be sure to make time for this old-school trilogy. Just make sure you have popcorn at your disposal because you have to get through three flicks!
Between Two Ferns: The Movie
Based on the hit web series Between Two Ferns, this movie is full of awkward interviews and the one and only Zach Galifianakis. If you're a fan of dry humor and high-profile celebrities thrown into weird conversations, then you're going to want to watch this Netflix movie.
This film is the perfect comedic relief for anyone who is stuck at home or needs to take the edge off. With guest stars such as Peter Dinklage, Paul Rudd, Gal Gadot, and Brie Larson, how could you not want to see this film?
About Time
For anyone who is a sucker for a romantic comedy with a bit of drama thrown in, think about watching About Time. The film stars Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson, so there's no doubt that there will be some happy tears shed throughout the flick.
Oh, and there's a bit of fantasy thrown into the plot, too. Gleeson's character is able to time travel. His hope is to change his past to improve his future. Are you interested to see what happens to the two love birds? We guess you're just going to have to watch and see!
Goon
Remember the party boy from American Pie? Well, his name is Sean William Scott, and he stars alongside Liev Schreiber in the sports comedy Goon. The film follows Scott's dimwitted yet loveable character Doug Glatt as he becomes the enforcer on a minor league ice hockey team.
Considering the people starring in the movie, trust us when we say it's full of witty one-liners and comedic situations. Goon is a film for any sports lover who just needs a good laugh in their life.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Of course, if you're looking to watch one of the classic comedies, you'll be happy to hear that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is currently streaming on Netflix. There's just something oddly funny about Ferris breaking the fourth wall to explain his antics to the audience.
The movie about the slacker playing hooky is one of the better options for anyone who is stuck at home and is sitting on the couch contemplating their life choices. Take the time and travel to Chicago with Ferris and his buddies and forget about reality for a while; you won't regret it.
The Incredible Jessica James
The Incredible Jessica James is the comedy that almost no one has heard about. We're here to change that! The movie follows Jessica as she tries to find love after splitting with her boyfriend. Insert Boone, a recent divorcee who goes on a date with Jessica. The two have an odd connection that is made even stranger by their vows to follow the other's ex on social media.
What could possibly go wrong there? This film has fantastic reviews, with one critic saying, "[The film] makes a standard storyline feel new, almost purely on the strength of a captivating, potentially star-making performance from Jessica Williams."
The Longest Yard (1974)
The 1974 film The Longest Yard is an old-time sports classic. Star Burt Reynolds is both funny and captivating as he recruits a rag-tag team of inmates to play football against the semi-pro team of prison guards. Although this film has been remade a few times, there is nothing quite like the original.
One critic said, "[The Longest Yard] is equal parts tough and funny, and led by the perfectly cast Burt Reynolds, [it] has an interesting political subtext and an excellent climax." Honestly, if you haven't seen this movie and you're stuck at home, now is the perfect time to add the classic to your catalog.
